The only answer she should have given Jon is which major medical institution says being transgender is a biological factor? When he begins to bullshit push him on it, should we start surgically maiming people with mental illness? Then finish it with major medical institutions advocated for shock therapy and lobotomies, should we bring those back?

Shock therapy has been back for a while now under the new name of Electroconvulsivd therapy (ECT).
It's used for really severe, refractory depression, especially because the SSRI drugs for depression in general don't so shit.
They shock your temples with an anesthesiologist in the room simultaneously administering an IV paralytic drug so your muscles don't twitch during the induced seizure, similar drugs that are used to keep you still during surgery (so the sedated patient doesn't spasm everytime the surgeon uses the cautery gun.
So essentially they induce seizure activity in the brain while keeping you paralyzed so there are no actual convulsions.
Some patients do get some relief from it, but it also tends to cause quite severe amnesia as well similar to wiping a hard drive.
