As far as polls go, this is pretty crazy. The left-wing parties have 2/3 of the vote - more than three times what the Conservatives have.
However, this proves that this is all about economics. England is in an economic free-fall thanks to the incompetent Truss (according to some people because women are trying to crash the economy).
Being a "conservative" in the UK means fighting rearguard actions against the wokes. It's like being a conservative in New York or Portland. All you can do is slow down the leftist march for a while and stage a fighting retreat. There is 0 chance of you actually taking the offensive and rolling back leftism because it's not what your constituency wants. You represent the brakes, and the Left represents the gas, but the car is moving ever Leftward.
If you think the UK is anything like either, you do not know much of the place. May I recommend "United Kingdom: The Country and Its People", course POL1013 of Basic FSB Training?
You actually think the constituency of people in the UK wants wokeness?
No, but unfortunately, what the people want matters not at all in "democracies".
Yes I think the majority of UK residents prefer leftist politics. It's just a quibble over HOW leftist, with the "conservatives" wanting to stop at moderate socialism, while "labor" wants full blown clown world.
You throw a welfare state on the same heap as 'wokism'. Which may fit the American context, but it does not fit the European context.
Yes I understand that the Euros don't even see a big welfare state as leftist anymore. It's become so normalized there.
Economic policy and cultural policy are intertwined. You see "woke" as purely cultural. Yet in America, the whole point of wokes is to drive leftist economic policy by mobilizing groups who ordinarily wouldn't care and wouldn't turn out to vote.
