The very obvious answer is that women do not want to become programmers and engineers. Just like they don't want to become plumbers and car mechanics, but those are not SEXY TECH jobs with disgustingly high pay, so they aren't politicized.

These exist. But what they want the male nurses for is that they can lift more weight (including obese patients), so when you do get male nurses they justifiably complain they get stuck with the scutwork. With no more pay and less opportunity for advancement.
Can confirm. My buddy is a nurse. He's 6 ft 5" and pretty ripped. They're always asking him to lift fatass patients and do other grunt work that they're supposed to do themselves.
