I can't remember the last video game I paid for, but at the same time, games these last few years have been so bad I don't even bother pirating them anymore.
Games I downloaded/pirated in the last year:
Surviving Mars with all DLC - Played it for a while then it got really buggy and I couldn't really use the new shit like underground and asteroids and terraforming so I got sick of it and stopped
Hades - I could never really get into it. It is aright as a game I just don't like that style of gameplay where you have to button mash and do frenetic dodges and shit.
Hearts of Iron 4 - old world blues DLC - This was good for a while. It's HOI4 in the Fallout New Vegas world. I played through it a couple times until it got so easy it was pretty much a joke (you figure out the mechanics, what is OP, etc, then you just steamroll)
Surviving the Aftermath - post apocalypse city builder, pretty decent for a while and then you explore the map and build out your town and it gets boring
Raft - holy suck boring and grindy
Vampire Survivors - fun for like a week.
That's a good trick. Wait 5 years for the gold to rise and the dross to sink.
I pirated NMS on launch just to experience the shitshow. It was a total ass of a game.
I played some of the major updates. It definitely became more of a viable game that was worth paying for years later, but obviously the game is still a disguised grind and gets very boring and repetitive, there are just more activities to do to flesh out the grind more.
It kindof plays like a mobile game. I think Elite: Dangerous is more of a "real" game, but that game also suffers from a lack of content.
