The thousand-yard Weinstein stare?
I reckon it's more of them trying to 'broaden the definition of beauty.'
The last time I saw an actress I found truly beautiful in that classic, timeless way was Alexandra Daddario in the Baywatch movie. Now it's all shoehorned minorities, fat cunts, jews and muslims, the girls with their eyes too far apart...
I honestly don’t think this is so much of a problem, outside the States…
Sure, you have ridiculous shit still, like the casting of Black women in historical roles, but really…
Sophie Cookson (in literally anything), Alexandra Dowling (Musketeers), Tamla Kari (Inbetweeners, IPCRESS, Musketeers) or indeed most French or Italian cinema - the dead-eyed fish look just isn’t so much of a thing, lol…
But yeah, I just… Don’t really watch Hollywood so much, anymore, so I don’t come across it as much, lol…
The fish-eye thing we don’t see in Aus, that’s true. But when was the last time you saw an ad or TV show here with no gays, chubsters, blacks or arabs?
The Medi-bank (private health insurance) ad celebrating a morbidly obese Indian woman is the perfect example. We truly live in 'Burgers?' world.
That ad just about made me puke. Absolutely hideous.
"Only human? Only able to lift and kick and..." - that one?
Yeah, it's on pretty much every day, now...
Seen the Toyota one with the (very) androgynous chick running against the "zero carbon" electric car..? That's pretty cringe. too...
Then again, I've literally only seen it during AFL broadcasts, so that is at least a relief...
I freely admit that I almost literally only watch live sport, on TV, these days (in normal weeks, when the Queen hasn’t just died, lol), so I probably don’t see this as much, per se…
I can’t be effed watching series, and I don’t watch movies on TV, generally, lol, so… I totally agree. I just tend to avoid it, lol.
And I don’t bother with Netflix. Stan/Paramount+ I might, but again, that’s purely for sports purposes, and I choose to spend my money on other stuff, anyway. 🤷🏻♂️
So sometimes I’ll go shopping, or to a live match, and only see the “woke zeitgeist” I’ve largely missed out on then, ha…
Though sometimes I do watch the TV news or read the newspaper, and holy shit, the levels of woke there are worse than just about anything you will ever see in real life, unfortunately…
Wait, you’re Australian as well??
Ah, well then, that changes things…
Yeah, this is true (apart from the occasional car ad - the fucking Korean companies are pretty good at avoiding that).
Especially on SBS, ABC and 10 (owned by CBS, for the rest of you out there), naturally…
Fortunately, I barely watch those, so i don’t see it so much, anymore, lol.
So you are right. I just deliberately try to avoid that shit. Which is, I admit, impossible, if you watch current-day AFL football, unfortunately…
But yeah, when you have a public broadcaster (in this case, SBS) making a series literally about the “history wars”, I admit that we are just as bad, unfortunately…
