It wasn't that Snow White necessarily was prettier - it's that "the evil queen" was so vain, that the mirror was able to tempt her (and yes, I realise that this somewhat contradicts my own point)...
Also played for comedic effect in Shrek (the first film), of course, with Farquhad...
Admittedly, I haven't read the original fairytale since I was a kid, so... I'm not quite sure how this lines up with the actual myth (except that Snow White was obviously notably pasty, which... Zegler is not)...
