I was a huge comics fan growing up- I could rattle off the issue numbers for major events or first appearances of my favorite characters all day long. But, I've pretty much stopped watching these movies for several reasons:
Saturation. We went from superhero movies being a rare treat to the majority of what's in the box office. Trying to see them all and keep the storylines straight wears me out.
Quality. Iron Man was groundbreaking as a quality origin story and the beginning of a shared universe. Now the movies are pretty sucky and they can't even keep the plot threads coherent. Bringing back everyone that has played Spider-Man and Patrick Stewart to plus up audience numbers in new films reeks of desperation to me.
"Diversity". The constant race swapping, girl power, and focus on tertiary non-white characters annoys the hell out of me. Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury? Rock on; he's a phenomenal actor and the Ultimates version of the character was modeled on him already. This year's "must see" series being about a frumpy Indian teen and a femenist twerking lawyer? Pass.
At this point, I'd rather remember comics as what they were to me when I was a kid. If I want to revisit them I'll just download a torrent of the original comics.

Well said.
