Well simply put the Rurik line made the first tsar or Russia and were the main bloodline of rulers in Rus.
They subjegated and slaughtered Novgorod, replaced its republic with their Mongol style despotism. Today it's a city of 200,000, compared to Moscow's 11 million.
Ruriks were Varangian not mongols
You should really look into the Mongol influence on their chosen tax collectors.
