Guess what the media is now blaming obesity on...

The comments are just as bad. CBS blames climate change. Twitter (irony alert) jumps in to say, no, it's screens and internet! Now, I think those things can absolutely be very bad...but for obesity? Contributing factor, at best. It's bizarre (and maybe astroturfed?) that everyone jumped on the phones, tablet, video games, internet blame-train. Plenty of people spend their entire day in front of a screen without getting fat. These Twitter weirdos are in serious denial.
The issue is, primarily, diet. Secondary is people just not giving a shit, and the normalization of all that nonsense, and lack of self control, respect, or responsibility. Screens are way down the list. Screens are on the top of some other lists, no question...but not being a fucking fatass.
Pathetic.
I don't think it's astroturfed, I think it's just denial. Not because I don't think there are interests that would astroturf it if they had reason to, but because they don't need to.
This is one area where Twitter does seem reflective of larger society. Almost nobody wants to admit that the root cause is people shoving food in their faces. Not even the diet and fitness industry wants to touch the idea for the most part, and to be fair "it's your own goddamn fault" is a hard sell no matter how diplomatically you try to phrase it.
Good point, you're probably right. I guess even I'm surprised by how stupid people can be on Twitter, sometimes. It just seemed so freaking weird, I couldn't quite believe it.
Not just that, but the wrong food. If you're eating the right stuff, you can shove a lot of food in your face without getting fat. But, still, quantity is a big deal; some people just enjoy eating, eat things they shouldn't, and eat too much of it.
As you say, no matter the specific reason, it does often come down to 'well, you did this to yourself. Which is hard to swallow...so to speak.
I figured the answer was going to be white supremacy / colonialism.
