Birth and death rate in Romania from 1950 to 2050. Decree 770 was signed by Nicolae Ceaușescu in 1967. The birthrate surged in 1967 and returned to its previous trend as people found ways to circumvent the decree.
This quote doesn't even have numbers in it besides years. You'll have to forgive me if I'm not convinced.
I'm gonna still bet that 40% unemployment rate for all those kids might be a problem. I'm willing to accept that I'm remembering something from a Romanian documentary (in Romanian), but I don't really get that from your quote.
I think you're not understanding what I'm saying. I'm not saying that a lack of abortion led to joblessness. I'm saying that the baby boom of pregnancies caused a sudden increase in the population that the communist system never coped with, and caused the government to destabalize.
I don't see anything that refutes my point. Births may have declined after the spike, but the spike still means a whole swath of kids.
The spike does not accommodate the “40% joblessness”. The jobless rate would have been high regardless because communism was crashing in this timeframe. Look at what Russia did with their birth rates, different tactics same results…
Well, but that's still not my point. I'm absolutely saying that Communism was a major part of the problem. Communism is what caused the 40% unemployment rate among that demographic because the communist system couldn't support them, because the communist leader was too busy building houses for himself. The communist system also banned the abortion for the communist leader's ambition.
Obviously poor governmental strategy is a huge factor here. But the communist government gave itself the demographic problem that it couldn't solve. I'm not saying that the abortion ban caused the joblessness. I'm saying the communists couldn't accommodate what it did to itself.

There’s nothing in those birth rates that show an increase in joblessness that wouldn’t occur naturally in that time frame
