There’s a few misconceptions here. If you don’t have basic knowledge on how to run electric and plumbing you’re way behind. Prepping does not mean stockpiling, it means having the knowledge, ability, and supplies to exist off the grid. This means running some wire, learning electrical designs, knowing pipe structures and why you don’t use tin on hot pipes for example. The amount of work that could make you truly self sustainable is something everyone should have been taught if schools actually were competent. This also requires a community, this is why small towns still exist. It’s not like it would be hard to get 5000 people with enough knowledge diversity to fulfill the majority of roles to maintain and adapt if something did happen.
I would agree that most YouTube “preppers” are more akin to survivorman than realistic planning. The freedom project and methodical control of a county are the best way to prep so that way you truly have access to natural resources and manpower. It’s a misplaced Hollywoodization of disaster with a natural desire for independence that creates the fuck it I’ll go it alone mentality.
