The answer is never in relaxing social responsibility. Our ancestors set standards for a reason. We need to quit pretending we were somehow smarter than everyone before us.
It takes a long time to realize, I'd say even more so now that it seems a lot of people never grow up at all. It took me into my 30s to see that a lot of stuff the "old people" said I thought was dumb wasn't really that far off. Same with stuff with kids being idiots. I didn't pick up on it until it got to the point until I was saying "hey, that's stupid you shouldn't do that, here's exactly how it's going to turn out" and seeing them do it anyway and turn out close to what you said. There's things kids/teens can absolutely physically do and aren't allowed to because they just lack the judgement, and I don't just mean sex stuff.
It's weird because a ton of people seem to want to push actually growing up to later, but the "benefits" of being grown up earlier at the same time.
