I had the opportunity to attend an Antiochian Orthodox parish some time back when I was in a city on business and much to my surprise it still had pews! The little church the parish was using had been around since the early 1900s and back then it was an Episcopal church.
Now, how does this tie on to my lack of surprise? The parish was Episcopal until the early 90s. The whole congregation converted en masse to Orthodoxy! They didn't like the direction the Episcopals were going and that was 30+ years ago!
Can't say I'm surprised it's them.
