I bet if I looked over the course of a year at all the plastic I dispose of and add it up, straws and bags aren't even a tiny fraction. It would be bottles and packaging many of which could be swapped for glass or paper. But replacing straws and bags inconveniences me like they want it to, and not their corporate overlords they don't want to mess with.
Or how about quit making everything for food and drink disposable. It's worse after covid world even with places that use plastic forks, cups, etc. One thing I remember liking in parts of Europe was how everywhere used real dishes and utensils. I could get coffee and a pastry at a food court of a train station and get a ceramic mug and plate and a metal fork. It's just better than a plastic cup and a paper bag.
Damn thing is, now we've got backyard recycle bins, and weekly pickup, I want my paper bags and glass pop and milk bottles back. Drinks are so much better in glass.
The problem was always the asshats who think it's fun to break glass on the street, though.
