The reason I usually give the normies is that they don't think anyone else's history will sell, and that they lack the backbone to push for it. Trying to convince them that it's done out of malevolence never works.
That's very true. Hollywood is creatively bankrupt and they tend to follow a formula these days. Even when a plot writes itself from having happened in history, they'd still need to fill in the details to make a tv show out of it.
