conquered people were treated much more harshly than they were by the Christian nations that conquered much of the world

For a truly fair comparison we should check what happened with the descendants of slaves that were sent/sold Eastwards while the others went West to the Americas. You know, the ones who were gelded so they couldn't reprodu- oh.
