That's not entirely true.

I had a 6 year serious relationship with a woman outside my league. How I got the first date was confidence and persistence. I asked her out 3 times over 2 months. She never gave me a hard "no" or "not interested". She continued to approach me after each try and we enjoyed talking to each other.
