Just because they refuse absolute hand over of power doesn't mean they're not in bed.
Those are just examples of power play. The US Government wanted to be top not bottom. Apple said no. Because they get power and control over US lobbying when they "volunteer" information (even when court ordered, the gov has to approach first).
It also means the US gov won't have precedent to then use said backdoors against Apple itself.
Do not confuse self preservation with non compliance.
