Exactly. People keep treating this like it's the end "no takesies backsies!", but the spotlight he's put on the bot problem isn't going away for Twitter. The shareholders are going to see a MASSIVE deal slip away and start asking very angry questions.
Everyone is talking about "pinning hopes" or Musk "fixing" Twitter, but I'm sure a vast majority would be happy with it just losing its perception as the court of "public opinion". Just getting a glimpse of how little of the interaction was genuine and some of the shady manipulation that goes on behind the scenes has been invaluable. The amount of suppression for 'verboten' accounts vs boosting of 'approved' accounts was staggering.
Nothing is stopping Elon from "trying again" (as if this couldn't also be part of his play) when the stock price is much, much lower. $44B was the opening bid, but they'd be lucky to get a fraction of that on a second deal.
