I don't think anyone said that. Russia lost some territory but is gaining in others.

Basically everyone said Russia was doomed and stunning and brave Ukraine was kicking their ass. The line was Russia was getting thrashed and embarrassed, because they are stupid and bad.

One is saying Russian is being embarrased due to their losses and mistakes, another is saying they are losing the war.

A battle is not the war.

They, Russia, certainly have won quite a few battles and lost some.
