I don't think anyone said that. Russia lost some territory but is gaining in others.

Basically everyone said Russia was doomed and stunning and brave Ukraine was kicking their ass. The line was Russia was getting thrashed and embarrassed, because they are stupid and bad.

Nope, it was expected for russia to conquer Ukraine completely in a few weeks. They are gaining some ground and lose in others. They gained a city, but lost snake island.
