I'm reminded of John Irving's novel "The World According to Garp" and its Ellen James Society, a group of radical feminists who cut out their tongues in "solidarity" with Ellen James, someone who was raped as a teenager and had her tongue cut out so she wouldn't prosecute the rapist. Of course, Ellen James herself is horrified by and deeply objects to women cutting out their own tongues, but she has no clout with Ellen Jamesians.
