What User said. It is a lot harder to adopt than it looks. You need to spend a ton just to get certified to adopt. Then you need court permission to do it. Any child has to be released to the state and then you apply to adopt. There are way more adopters than kids to be adopted.
The state will also pay for the care of the child. So it really is a doable thing.
I've seen 12 year olds with a thousand offers. All of the stories you've heard are not true today.
