I checked out some of my favorite youtubers to see if the Kenobi leaks were true and I guess I shouldn't be surprised they were. I cancelled Disney plus a while back and decided to stick with pre-Disney Star Wars like episodes 1-6 and the EU/Legends.
I guess at one point I would've been surprised that Leia would feature so prominently but now it is pretty obvious that writers today cannot write a female character to save their lives. Every female has to be shoehorned in so they can show how much better than men they are. Also they knew that Reva would make viewers roll their eyes so they had to play the race card again. I mean the formula for Disney is pretty obvious now. Market a show based on a male character, only to have that show be all about a much more capable female.
There was a book called Kenobi written by John Jackson Miller where Kenobi is watching over Luke from a distance and trying to keep a low profile but gets involved in a conflict between the local farmers and Tusken Raiders. Definitely would've made more sense from a lore perspective.
I'm still ashamed that when I heard that Disney bought Star Wars I thought they could do good things with it. I thought that they would adapt the EU. When they wiped that out I figured they could've at least used it for streaming content by doing a NJO animated mini series like how DC has animated movies in an alternate timeline. Then I learned that they threw out GL's outline too.
I gave their books a chance and read the awful Aftermath trilogy and I even liked mandalorian but I liked it less once I realized that everything was headed to the sequel trilogy (I stupidly let myself believe they would retcon it).
Like I said, there is a lot of EU content I haven't checked out yet like the Old Republic books and comics.
There were 3 main things wrong with the Kenobi show.
It was not a Kenobi show. It was more about Reva and Leia because stronk wymxn.
The entire plot was lifted from Fallen Order, often scene-for-scene, and it was still done worse.
KK had a hissy fit the original plot was "too dark" and so they "re-wrote" it. By copying Fallen Order. And sidelining the titular character.
If you want to clap like a retarded seal high on memberberries and memes, go check out the main Star Wars subs on Reddit.
If you want detailed breakdowns of why the show was not only a massive rip off of existing material but also yet another bait-and-switch, go check out the saltierthancrait sub on Reddit.
Do note the "crait" with a C as there is a Krayt [as in the dragons on Tatooine] version that SJWs have set up to whine about their SocJus filled dumpsterfires being criticised after TLJ [where Crait comes from] was rightfully panned by long term SW fans.
Yea I used to be in the main Star Wars subreddit til I realized it’s pretty much a shill page. I’m on some EU/Legends exclusive pages.
Do you know what the original plot was?
No, just that KK called it "too dark". Someone on saltierthancrait might know but the little I've seen of it mentioned there is what I've mentioned KK thought of it so that might be all we know for now.
Number 2 is saying something. Fallen Order was atrocious.
The story and characters, both were as flat as a three day old soda. The gameplay is adequate.
Well yeah, gameplay is often the more important thing and I've certainly read that the gameplay helped immensely for some why they enjoyed it so much. For Kenobi to then turn around and use the same story but without the same sort of engagement as the gameplay brings highlights one of the mistakes of the show.
