I’m not totally surprised. It’s a small town in Texas. It’s probably got the standard Dairy Queen, BBQ restaurant, and Mexican restaurant, and a couple gas stations. I can’t remember if I’ve specifically been through Uvalde, but I’ve been to three dozen such towns in Texas. Things are just different and they aren’t going to be prepared and on edge like city cops.

What disappoints me is their cowardice. Sitting around outside while kids are getting shot up is not small town Texas, or at least it shouldn’t be.
