I think it's because they need an easy boogeyman that fits into the other globalist narratives, that white people are bad, and that Christians are bad. Russia is a purely contrived enemy through propaganda, that the globalists push on the Western public so they're more likely to go along with the globalist authoritarianism, so they can defeat evil Russia. It's another form of intentional division, to keep the people fighting amongst themselves so they don't join together and fight their mutual enemy: the globalists.
