I've been saying the same thing about H. sapiens in general ... the higher the (technological) climb, the (longer and) harder the fall ...Man has lost every last shred of humility before Nature, and that's going to come back and bite HARD (and not just the West, hell, the West's dependants will go first.)
When a species lacks predators and other threats in general, it turns on itself and becomes its own predator.
