The entire album is an anti-nuclear war thing. That was common knowledge back when it came out.
"Thank God for the Bomb" is meant to be sarcastic, and a product of Reagan-era MAD-house thinking. "Thank god for the Bomb, it's keeping us from nuking each other."
Well, consider that the album title (and the title song) is a reference to nuclear war itself.
In a way, this album kind of de-nihilified Ozzy (at least until his family roped him into that stupid reality show. He was seen as a bit of nihilist before this, but I think mostly because of misinterpretations of Suicide Solution.)
...until his family roped him into that stupid reality show
only thing I remember about the osbournes is him getting a new studio in his home, and them showing him the tv over the control board and him grinning like a kid on christmas going "...pawrn...π" in that heavy british accent of his and it making me laugh my ass off...

So edgy-cynicism then, lol.
I guess it's just a testament to the quality of the lyrics that they seem to fit still... good art should be open to interpretation that way.
But then, I have a soft spot for Ozzy's music, so maybe I'm a bit biased...π

I listened to this album so much back in the day. I havenβt heard it in more than a decade but still know all the words. Jake E Lee rocks.
I like Randy Newman's Political Science.
I prefer oingo boingo's weird science.π
That one's pretty good too. Not many nuclear bombs in it but pretty good.
oh fuck, how'd I forget this gem?π
