It's not even the worst of the past. It's straight up imaginary.
The polio case rate, at its peak, was 36 per 100,000, or .036%. The definition of a "rare disease" is one that affects less than 5% of the population. That would make polio about 140 times more rare than a rare disease. The perception that it was ever even approaching common is pure fiction.
The gay dad is such obvious wish fulfillment I don't even need to address it.
The mom being on drugs is projection from modern day. Currently, over 35 million Americans take psych meds, and a further 50 million have used illegal drugs or abused prescription drugs. It's impossible to get data from the 1950s, but even in the 60s, an era considered by idealists as an orgy of sex and drugs, only 4% of adults - 5 million or so - had ever even smoked weed a single time. Getting high to get through the day has only been normal for a few decades.
The daughter being unable to go to college is another modern lie to make the past seem evil. In 1950, 32% of college students were female. By 1960, there were 230 women-only colleges. Being not allowed to wear blue jeans, even if it were true, is such a first world problem it's insulting they even thought of it.
Regarding child abuse and molestation, it's virtually impossible to say one way or another. The statistics only go so far back, and as we've seen from the latest rash of public school teachers being discovered as pedophiles, the powers that be still don't want us knowing the truth. So this is the only one that may contain even the slightest hint of truth, but it's a complete shot in the dark so they may as well say he's a praying mantis. It's based just as much in fact.
