And then what does Russia do with euros and dollars they can't convert or spend because of sanctions?
It's like trading their gas for Monopoly money. I'm not even slightly surprised that they won't accept it. The EU is marching to Von Der Leyen's idiotic tune.
Welcome to the Fourth Reich. Der Fuhrer Von Der Leyen will affirm the female future.
Freeze and starve for our future, for our motherland! (because fatherland is misogynistic).
Maybe it expired though? There must be a reason they didn't cancel a month ago when they announced the policy. It could be a month-to-month thing. (I don't really know.)
You can't seriously claim that they would be allowed to openly trade with anyone. Look at the pressure being placed on India, despite cheap Ural oil being the only thing keeping their people off the poverty line right now.
The people building these sanctions up don't care if it traps random other countries. If Russia sold in euros and bought things from Mexico, Mexico would be pushed into being the next country joining the sanctions, under US threats.
I mean, this is the same government that put tariffs on South Korea, a long time US ally, for electing "the wrong person".
They can, they still can trade with non-sanctioning countries.
India is getting pressure because they are not only unhappy with Russia, but because they began to receive western arms. And it is a worry that they may switch sides and send that stuff to Russia to steal. Like they did on most things, like the IR missile, nuke trigger, and long range bombers.
But Sure, countries will enact pressure on others, that is normal. But they can still use all that money elsewhere.
They can only pay, as per contract, in euros or dollars in most cases. Which is how they were still receiving gas in these 2 months.

Other countries accept euros. They are being sanctioned by a selective few. They can still spend those euros on mexican goods for instance.
No, they can't.
