Lawyers gonna Lawyer. Defense attorneys will often push the dindu route because its their job. What matters is the outcome of the case.

Nothing to add or detract from your point, but this seems to be a rather high-profile attorney. Strange that they'd have the money to hire him and that he'd take this on.
