He was, at the time, an actor with a significant supporting role in a prime time tv series for Fox. Part of the real life drama from this situation was whether he would remain on the show.
When the "attack" happened, it maintained the narrative of Trump supporters being violent homophobic racists. An assured BINGO if there ever was one.
