The word of the King Clown is King. This supercedes all other commandments.
No matter how unrelated, participate in every circus that comes to town. If the circus is actively hostile to anyone, that doesn't matter. Perform for every tent, every show, even if the show is the "I hate you and your kind specifically" show.
Clowns go in importance based on their makeup. The darker the makeup, the more important the clown, and you may not put on makeup darker than yourself, unless you're King Clown.
That "importance" is a key part of the act. The whole point, why it is funny, is that is doesn't matter, and your actions must highlight that it doesn't actually matter to the audience. They must see that you follow a code, but also that the code is just clowning around, to create absurdist humor.
Irony is a core part of being a clown, and humor in general. In literary analysis, irony can be coincidental misfortune, but it also can be simple contradicton: Lies are a form of literary irony, and you should use them as much as possible.
The circus can only pay so many clowns. Take down any clowns not clownly enough to deserve pay.
And finally...
At the end of the day, it's all an act. Once the clown makeup comes off, forget all about it and do whatever the hell you were going to do anyways. Disney censors its own LGBT messaging in China, Vidya developers make sure to never include any rainbows in the middle-east, COVID fearmongers go to densely packed restaurants to share drinks mask-free, communists run off to their multi-million-dollar mansions built by near-slave-labor, it's all good.
