That's a good example, but I feel like there's been a more fundamental shift- maybe since Turdeau went full dictator. There's a lot more "mask off" moments and not enough push-back.
BLM was just the crazies and fanatics, but when the governments/institutions or business and services start demanding a show of fealty/submission, that's going to be a whole 'nother level of hell entirely.
An additional thought: might be they feel a void after losing the covid narrative and are desperate to fill it with the next moral stick they can use to justify further beatings. They don't believe Russia is evil or care about Ukraine, they've just acquired a thirst for the power of a citizen enforcer.
After giving up so much for a lie they can't realistically defend anymore, it's probably the only way they can maintain a sense of control- find a reason to blame and shame others into compliance. The only comfort they have left is consensus, and you or anyone not being a part of that threatens their beliefs.
