Me 6-7 years ago: "You know most of the popular arguments in favor of gay marriage: 'government should stay out of the bedroom', 'who am I to judge who someone loves', 'not my business as long as they're consenting', etc... also could apply to relationships with children."
Them: "What!? No! That'll never happen!"
And I was even saying it as a liberal at the time as a way of warning that the arguments are coming and you better be prepared for it, and I found it disconcerting that all I got was a disgust reaction instead of an argument in response.
