All of western civilization basically relies on truckers. No singular job makes more of the modern global goods based economy run quite as much as the people ferrying everyone's I phones from the ports and dragging beef from St. Louis to Maine.
I think you could get away with losing truckers and keeping rail workers. Most American rail transport is all cargo and no passengers. There's huge amounts of deliveries from that. Thing is... who's taking it from the depot to the store.
