She was from Melbourne, so it was undoubtedly Melbourne Cup Day. Or just “Cup Day”, if you prefer.
First Tuesday in November, I believe. Each year. Only a public holiday in Melbourne (I think they even cancelled the holiday, during Covid, the last two years, lol)…
Horrible, horrible event, even if I admit to have participated in tipping and sweeps. More horses died during it in the past decade than ever before, and yet the fucking vegans refuse to touch it, lol…
So yeah, can’t say I’m a fan, but your, uhh, “ex friend” sounds like exactly the sort of person who would do exactly as you describe, lol!
It’s a good day to get shit-faced, if, I imagine, extremely expensive to do so, lol…
But yeah, I admit that one makes even me uncomfortable, and always has…
I think if I was there, and saw a horse being shot for my entertainment, I would probably require more than a few drinks, just to… Deal with that. 😑
What the fuck are they doing to the horses that they have to be put down? When horses die in american races, its because they lost a leg either through an unfixable break they literally lost it. You can't save a horse once the leg is gone, it's just a reality. Most of these horses, they are so 'thoroughly' bred, they have weak joints and the stress of racing makes itself present.
My uncle raises racing horses and he doesn't buy/breed those weak-kneed race-fillers. Had a few that were injured and took up to 18 months getting them back in shape to spare them having be put down. Most of his horses he sells for breeding stock or riding animals once they no longer race. He's a real fucking asshole, but he couldn't put down his horses when age/illness got to them, my dad had to.
Ooh, I can answer this one for you, actually!
