Sure, with the exception that church doctrine from day 0, including actual verses of the Bible, call Mary “Highly Favored (by God)”. It’s pretty explicit that Mary is favored by God, but in no way has any authority nor does she claim any. It’s reverence given to her out of respect for her Son (in the same way a Queen Regent would be respected). She’s like the moon, reflecting the light of her Son.
This is the idolatry part of the problem. There are numerous people in the Bible “highly favored” by god. However the reverence only falls upon Mary and the saints. Catholics do not just pray to god, they pray to Mary, and pray to saints. This is all worship of man, even if god is considered the overall supreme, Catholics have created deities of worship aside from him.
