I thought that this was going to be one stupid idea, but checking on Wookipedia it's a completely different stupid idea: five pilots in five different types of starfighter. It would be one thing if it was something like four regular X-wings and a "Wild Weasel" fighter-bomber where the heterogeneous squadron composition provided some specific tactical advantage, but sticking a B-wing in a squadron with faster, more maneuverable starfighters means the entire element is reduced to the speed and maneuverability of the B-wing.
Oh god, I'm not even sure what stupid idea is worse at that point. As everyone has said, the drastic differences between the different fighters means they can't complement each other or provide any conveniences.
I may need my memory refreshed though (operating on over two-decade old TIE Fighter game info), what was the difference between the B-Wing and the Y-Wing? I know the Y-Wing was the primary bomber type, but it was looking like the B-Wing basically replaced it.
the ywings are ever so more maneuverable, the bwings have more advanced armaments and detection tech, but have a higher maintenance requirement. ywings continued to be used because of their higher reliability and lower cost to construct one.

Basically, the Y-Wing is a fighter-bomber, whereas the B-wing is a pure bomber.
