You can search for materials on torrents or archive for pdf versions. You can also find places that can print them, if it is a local store and you know the guy working there it should be no problem.
I did that with some old AD&D modules and they turned out great., it also helps if you want to hand player handbooks to your players. The actual handbook can be expensive but a printed version is great and a lot cheaper.
Oh yeah, PDFs are good stuff. I've got a lot of them, pretty much the whole 3.5 collection so I don't have much trouble playing and running it, but there are a few I'd still like to have in physical copies so I snap them up when/where I find them for prices lower than "black market organ". :-P
