Heard an interesting idea on Academic Agent's channel, that a country's laws influence its culture.
I had always thought of the culture influencing its laws but it makes sense the reverse would apply too. We've had decades of women being able to (arguably) murder their own child. Normalizing homicide like that has to have affected the culture and Americans' views on the death of others to some degree.
I'm reminded of the post I made the other day about suicide pods, and we saw in that, as with other things, an almost celebration of the death of others. Would something like that or the receptiveness to it even come about if we didn't have decades of infanticide okayed?
If "politics is downstream from culture", you might also say that "laws set the boundaries of new tributaries".
