I've been interested in WH40k lore for a while but never got into it. Does anyone know what the last version before the woke infestation was for purposes of reading the codices, novels, etc.?
I'm thinking of an equivalent to D&D 3.5 here - both good in terms of rules/mechanics (compared to 4E) and also free of social justice shit (compared to 5E).
For books, I highly recommend the "Eisenhorn" saga (he is an inquisitor and it mainly focus on the other aspects of 40k, not the ultra turbo giga war) and the Gaunt's Ghosts (some colonel in the imperial guard and how him and his regiment of scout specialized units are getting the short straw & buttfucked by chaos almost every fucking battle they got deployed to), "Prospero must burn" is also really good and...
Fuck it, anything written by Dan Abnett is S tier, period.

If you're only interested in the lore, Luetin have a fantastic channel about everything 40k, from weapons to planets to xenos to titans.
