the issue isn't extinction. the issue is that all of our western entitlement systems are financially modeled off of growing populations. social security, medicare, all the socialized healthcare and retirement systems of europe and canada... they're all operating on ponzi scheme math that requires population growth. young people grow to middle aged and pay in more than they consume, which pays for the prior generation before them. each generation needs to be bigger than the prior or the financial models for entitlements collapse.
