I see even your second point also as a good thing; the Right should never assume that their opponents are weak or unarmed.
The best thing that could happen to the Second Amendment is the Left suddenly becoming big proponents of it. That will make their short-sighted war against the First even more difficult for them.
Yep. Their gun grabbing is what turned me against them in the end. I had issues with a lot of things they did, but when my state started attacking guns owners (ie me) I became a Republican quicker than Saint Kyle killed that child molester.
But gun control isn't really about preventing crimes. It's just another front in the culture war. They push gun control to spite people they hate. Notice how they're bent on confiscating AR-15s when rifles as a whole (including things like bolt action rifles and repeaters) make up around 4% of all gun crime. The vast majority of gun crimes are committed with hand guns, but the panic about handguns is conspicuously absent. The Democrats aren't interested in preventing their constituents from shooting rival gang members, they just want to persecute Republican voters. Mass shootings are a pretext and the crime debate is a sideshow.
I know National Review is controversial here, but they have a really good article on this:

The 2nd Amendment was not written with the intent that imported farm equipment would be allowed to own guns, let alone vote.
Every single Founder who wrote our magical and much lauded Constitution owned slaves including Alexander Hamilton, stop downvoting me you fucking dipshits, you know I'm right. Liberia has an exact copy of our Constitution and it clearly isn't working for them.
Even in Kenosha they had a plenty of handguns and also some rifles.
Should have learned that in the Denver incident.
