Oh hey, it didn't happen to just me? I got posted some time ago on one of those large harassment subreddit (not SRS, a different one), and since I spent the next 24 hours making fun of them in their own subreddit, they got butthurt enough to upvote me to the top. Ended up doxxing some random guy with a vaguely similar background to me and contacting his employer and getting him to private his online accounts.
When I threatened defamation lawsuits (there were accusations of pedophilia because leftists always project) and started reporting them and getting them banned off the site, they quickly deleted the post and the hundreds of hatemails stopped coming in.
Jesus Christ.
No, didn't happen to me, but I've seen it happen to others and know it happens and I'm looking to being in a career where rep is everything. The last thing I need is so much as one person figuring out who I am and wrecking my social and financial capital.
I hate that a mob happened upon you and that poor unsuspecting guy they thought was you. The people doing that, honestly yeah with the amount of harm it can do nowadays those people should've absolutely been charged with a felony and fined or jailed for all their worth. That's the sort of shit that gets people killed.
