Their "don't be evil" slogan was basically a message to the world that said, "Hey, we're not going to do the sleazy shit other companies do. We're better than that." At some point they started doing all that sleazy shit, and "don't be evil" became a sick joke. I don't know exactly how the decision was made to drop the slogan, but it was done very quietly, and pretty much everyone assumes it was done because even the company big shots who drank all the cooperate Kool-Aid realized how retarded the slogan made them look in light of all the rotten things they do.
