I'm not all that familiar with politics in Japan either, but this bit is encouraging:
Yu Uchiyama, a politics professor at Tokyo University, did not rule out a political marriage of convenience between the ruling party and Ishin MPs who support changes to Japan’s “pacifist” constitution – an ideological obsession of Kishida’s mentor, the former prime minister Shinzo Abe.
It sounds like continuing or expanding Abe's policy of standing up to Winnie the Pooh is very much in the cards, so that's a major plus.
The only thing Japan can do with this idiot in office over here. Japan since 1945 has relied on the US for defense and now they can't rely on that anymore.
