I've been there as well, with people I've known for going on 20 years. We even were vaguely aware of each other's politics, but it wasn't until recently when their hatred started to come out. Well OK then: I don't need this in my life.

But all things considered I was glad it happened, because I needed to see and hear their hatred up-close to understand it.
