No, they invented the concept of race to try and figure out why the hell there were 4 fucking continents full of resources populated by people with a lower level of development than anywhere in eurasia had had for over a thousand years.
You can see race with your own two eyes. Someone might have named it, but no one invented it anymore than they invented grass or sky.
