I've got the red hair gene. I'm looking around, and not a lot of "white" people seem to have it. They are missing a critical gene of commonality. Just as a black person may not have the same melanin levels in their genetics, so too does a white person not have the same red hair levels.
If I am proud of the "greater family", then I'm proud of the human who made transportable refridgeration, a black man. If the "greater family" requires closer genetics, then Germans, French, Italians, Spaniards all need to get lost, too.
Because where is the line? The line ever-moves.
I am proud of my own accomplishments, and respect the accomplishments of humanity as a whole, but do not lay claim to them for merely sharing a trait or two.
